Japan - A country of Contrasts October 16-27 2008
Our yearly travel program will celebrate the ephemeral splendor of Japan in the autumn from October 16th to 27th. The program will penetrate both the old world of Japan with its traditional values and an exclusive realm of aristocratic heritage, which we enter through visits to artisans, so famous; they are regarded as National Treasures. Juxtaposed to this will be focus on cutting edge art and architecture in Tokyo, a city that since the 2nd World War spat at the past and turned its gaze steadily on being the most avant-garde city in the world. Fashion, Art, Architecture and Landscape art since 1945 have outstripped the West, but still retained a distinct Japanese echo which experts explain to us. This program is limited to 20 participants. Miami - Gateway to the South January 24-27th 2008
Miami over the last thirty years has become a throbbing, hot international city, home to the film industry and boasting a thriving Contemporary art scene as well as a restored and cherished art deco environment on South Beach. This four day program is a get together for Arts to Life members allowing them to renew old friendships at an easy to reach destination which is at once Latin and European. We will look at the meeting of these two cultures through entrée to private collections and through artist studio visits while enjoying the Riviera like atmospheres of South Beach and dining at some of the area's hot spots. Visits to artist studios will reinforce our understanding of how the city has absorbed an intellectual refugee Cuban community. This will be a multi-dimensional program allowing for varied interests. For old friends it will provide a hot, sunny colourful mid winter destination where they can meet and play.
