Miami - Gateway to the South January 24–27th 2008

Flamingo pink is hot on the walls of Miami’s South Beach Art Deco district but hotter still are the sidewalks sizzling along the beachfront where European film crews, models and rock musicians sit at outdoor cafés sipping cool long drinks at twilight. Besides its art fairs and its mix of Latin and Contemporary American Art Miami boasts a rich cultural environment, an unrivalled winter climate, the only European Riviera like atmosphere in America, shops that rival New York and Los Angeles and restaurants that hold their own when its comes to monster steaks or exotic cuisine.

For Arts to Life’s Members first Getaway Weekend we are offering two levels of style – both in the heart of the South Beach Art Deco Area. One is for those who want to simply luxuriate; the other is equally good but not as grand but will allow you to be comfortable, to join in the fun and most of all - to see old friends. Both levels will do the same - a bit of art, some architecture, eat and enjoy the shops, galleries and artists.

Unlike our usual very structured and more scholarly trips this getaway is designed to be fun, with long meals at some of Miamis favourite dining spots such as Prime 112, Soyka or the Delano where you can enjoy Philip’s Stark Design on the Ocean.

The highlight of the trip will be a great walk through the art deco district with one of our members who is an expert on the area, having gutted half the buildings herself, and seen to their restoration way before anyone even knew the South Beach existed. We will hear the secrets behind the South Beach’s rise to glory and meet some of the old timers whose walls are unlike any other walls in America.
