The object sings to you-makes your heart pound and your breath catch-and you must have it. You understand its history, appreciate its craftsmanship, thrill to its beauty, and know that its value will stand the test of time. These are the impulses that drive every would-be collector. You will find the passionate collector combing the stalls in the flea markets of Paris or contemplating canvasses in the Marais. You can see her in downtown Manhattan, exploring galleries in Chelsea. He is up before dawn in London to make his way to the Portobello Road antique market; she is off on another adventure to Miami or Madrid or Milan. Expert collecting has always been difficult-requiring intelligence, discretion, and perseverance. But it has become even more so in recent years. In the past, the collector could layer his home in comfort, and luxuriate in her findings. But the arbiters of contemporary taste have since decreed that minimalism shall be the prevailing style. Uninterrupted white wall space reigns, leaving very little room for art or decorative items to breathe. On the other hand, there is a glut of mass produced decorative items flooding the market and overwhelming the consumer. With so much to choose from and so little space to display it in, how can the collector be sure to select the few singular pieces that will satisfy her longing, that will speak to the moment, and yet endure? There is no greater adventure in the art world than the chase: the discovery of an object you desire, the investigation, the bidding, and, ultimately, the sense of fulfillment when the piece becomes your own. Jessica Deutsch brings to you, the option to commission or purchase contemporary objects, jewelry and art that she herself sources from across Europe and South Africa that are rare and out of the ordinary, collectable, affordable and will be of value in the future. "Many of the techniques represented in my items are fast disappearing and these pieces will be the antiques of tomorrow, whether they be tribal beads, marquetry or Dale Bowen's pate sur pate on porcelain. That is why there is so much material on my web site along with each artist, so people understand why the art is collectable."
