Suzanne’s artistic talents were evident from childhood and as she says “I remember my childhood being spent with a pen, crayon or brush in my hand creating many a masterpiece.”
Her painterly talents and meticulous attention to detail is evident in the many commissions she has completed for Wedgwood, where she is employed, in particular the magnificent Wedgwood Vase (see past works) which she painted for Charles and Camilla’s wedding. Her array of abilities with subject matter allow her to shift from architectural detail to human anatomy, from flora to fauna. Such skills prove her to be a masterful painter and had she not chosen ceramics as her medium of expression she would no doubt be among the great names of realistic contemporary artists in England today.
Suzanne has been with Wedgwood since 1988 . Initially she was employed as a colour liner and gilder before being transferred to the Special Skills Department . Here, for several years she was directly under the tutelage of Malcolm Harnett. He quickly recognised the enormous range of her skills and became her mentor, showing her how to channel her talent to ceramics and steering her steadily as she developed into a highly skilled and unique artisan. She is probably one of the few artisans in the United Kingdom today capable of achieving the depth of perspective, painterly control of her medium and ability to translate flowers, birds and animals to a ceramic surface with such skill. One might say that her work more than equals anything produced in previous centuries from the workshops of Wedgwood, Sevres or Minton. What makes Suzanne’s work all the more delightful is that her scenes are contemporary and she can as easily reproduce a golfer on a golf course as a contemporary rendering of a tulip.
The work she produces for Arts to Life is her own work and is done outside of her work for Wedgwood.
